This cruise from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh is more than just transportation—it’s a relaxing journey through Cambodia’s culture and countryside. From floating villages and traditional crafts to historic temples and river sunsets, the trip offers an authentic and easy way to experience local life along the Mekong.
ITENERARY
Day 1: Siem Reap to Kampong Chhnang
Your journey begins with a hotel pickup in Siem Reap around 9 AM. Before boarding the cruise, you visit Kampong Phluk, a floating village on Tonle Sap. In the morning, the village is full of life—families cooking, children heading to school, and boats moving along the canals. The houses stand high on wooden stilts, creating a unique and beautiful view.
You’ll walk around the village, visit a local school and temple, and stop at a small restaurant for lunch. Afterward, the journey continues by road to Kampong Chhnang, taking about three and a half hours. Along the way, you pass rice fields, small villages, and countryside landscapes that show everyday Cambodian life. There is also a short stop at an ancient bridge in Kampong Thom, a peaceful reminder of Cambodia’s history. By late afternoon, you arrive in Kampong Chhnang and board your river cruise.
Day 2: Kampong Chhnang to Koh Chen
After breakfast, you take a small boat to explore a local pottery village. Here, artisans still make pottery using traditional methods passed down through generations. It’s a great chance to see how local crafts are created by hand.
Next, a tuk-tuk ride brings you through the countryside, where wide rice fields and tall sugar palm trees create beautiful photo opportunities. Back on the cruise, lunch is served as the boat travels toward Kampong Tralach. Later, you enjoy a short ox-cart ride along dusty village paths to visit a rural temple and see more local life.
In the afternoon, the cruise continues to Koh Chen, a small village known for its skilled silversmiths and copper craftsmen. Watching them create detailed handmade products is one of the highlights of the trip. As the day ends, relax on the deck and enjoy the peaceful sunset over the Mekong River.
Day 3: Koh Chen to Phnom Penh
On the final day, you visit Oudong, once the royal capital of Cambodia. The visit includes climbing 509 steps to reach the hilltop temple area. The climb can be a bit challenging, but the wide panoramic views from the top make it worth the effort.
After exploring, you return to the boat for lunch as the cruise continues toward Phnom Penh. Around 2 PM, the journey ends in the capital city. If you have an evening flight, there’s still time to walk along the riverside, explore the city, or simply relax before departure.
